This Wednesday Feb 8th, 6pm in City Hall 2023 the Jersey City Council will be doing a final vote on Ordinance 23-005. This ordinance will transfer the property at 595 Newark Avenue from Hudson County to Jersey City for the explicit purpose of creating a public park for posterity. This a huge achievement in the multi year process we’ve been working on to create this open green space.
What can you do?
Attend the council meeting in person and sign up to speak in favor of the ordinance. Our elected representatives need to hear from us that this park is desperately needed in this area and that we urge the entire council to vote yes.
What happens next?
Hudson County board of Commissioners will also have to vote on this through their legislative process which involves creating their own ordinance.
The design process for the park will continue and future meetings with the public scheduled.
What else are we doing?
The Courthouse Park Advocacy Group will be contacting the County to get them moving on their own ordinance and will be informing you of when they will be voting on this. We will also be working with the park design consultants on the meeting times and places for the next steps in their process.
Please spread the word to any of your friends, neighbors and community groups!
Thank you
